External economic value
We create value for society by carrying out our energy infrastructure functions
The value of the energy we transport is immense. The energy we transport and store ensures economic production and general wellbeing. Gasunie is at the service of its customers. Market parties lease capacity in our gas networks and use our services like gas storage, contract trading, quality conversion, and certification. Added to this last year were Gasunie’s major efforts in the area of LNG.
External social value
We create value for society by facilitating the energy transition
We aspire to make major strategic investments this decade in networks for the transmission and storage of hydrogen, CO2, heat and green gas. With our Vision 2030 programme we are helping society become climate-neutral by 2050. In addition, through our quality conversion efforts we are facilitating the phase out of gas extraction from the Groningen field.
Internal economic value
We create value while performing our core natural gas infrastructure functions
While managing our infrastructure, financial value is created for suppliers, financiers and our shareholder. In addition, the company is worth more because we invest responsibly and carry out maintenance, minimise costs and risks, improve our business processes and accumulate knowledge.
Internal social value
We create value for society by making our day-to-day operations more social and sustainable
Gasunie is working continuously on improving its business operations. A safe working environment, equal opportunities and a pleasant company culture and leadership style are the mainstays of a successful company. In addition, we endeavour to make our procurement, energy consumption and location management more sustainable.
Our contribution to creating a carbon-neutral world
The Netherlands aims to be climate-neutral by 2050. To get there, as a country the Netherlands must cut its carbon emissions every year over the coming decades: it needs to follow what’s called the National Transition Pathway (see the yellow line in the visual below). However, as can be seen in the Climate and Energy Outlook published by PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency, we are lagging behind on this pathway (see the dotted line). If Gasunie were to be facilitated in implementing its Vision 2030 programme completely and without delay, we in turn would be able to facilitate the Netherlands in closing a significant part of the gap between the Climate and Energy Outlook and the Transition Pathway. If other sectors in the economy play their part, the rest of the gap can be closed, too, and we will stay on track to become carbon neutral in 2050.
