Persevere and adjust

The first half of 2025 demonstrated that the energy transition requires both perseverance and adjustability. Gasunie made significant progress on projects such as Porthos and HyStock, but also faced delays and rising costs in initiatives like WarmtelinQ. We continue to invest in infrastructure that connects sustainability with security of supply, with a focus on realistic implementation and societal impact. We can only succeed in the energy transition by staying committed, adjusting when needed, and working closely with both public and private partners.

Facts and figures

Gasunie has invested half a billion euros in energy infrastructure in the first half of 2025. We transported 489 TWh of natural gas, with one reported transport interruption. Furthermore, the workforce increased to 3,242 full-time equivalents.

Progress report

In our 2024 annual report for Gasunie, we set measurable targets and forecasts across six key areas: energy transition, emissions, circularity, security of supply, safety, and employee wellbeing. In the 2025 half-year report, we provide an update on the progress we are making towards achieving these targets and forecasts.

Transport volumes

In the first half of 2025, GTS (Netherlands) transported 9.2% more natural gas compared to the first half of 2024 (approximately 354 TWh compared to 322 TWh). This increase is the result of higher transport volumes to gas storage facilities and a rise in cross-border transport. GUD (Germany) transported 6.1% more natural gas in the first six months of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024 (an energy volume of 135 TWh compared to 127 TWh).

Our projects

In the first half of 2025, Gasunie made significant progress in the development of its infrastructure projects. Market parties were able to express their interest in importing liquefied gas via EemsEnergyTerminal beyond 2027. Gasunie and EBN are taking a leading role in the CO₂ transport and storage project Aramis. However, there are also setbacks; WarmtelinQ is facing delays and increased costs, which have prompted consultations with parties involved.

Interim financial statements

In the first half of 2025, we generated €142 million more in revenue and €50 million more in net profit relative to the first half of 2024. However, the capacity sold in the first half of 2025 declined significantly compared to the same period in 2024. This decrease was a result of higher tariffs in contrast to 2024. The increase in net profit is, in absolute terms, smaller than the increase in revenue. This is partly due to the growth in our workforce which supports our ambitions for the energy transition.
